Eli Lilly's Foundayo Receives Positive European Regulatory Opinion

The European Medicines Agency published a positive CHMP opinion for Foundayo, containing orforglipron, on October 16, following the committee's October 15 decision.

The recommendation covers adult weight management and type 2 diabetes, subject to the final European Commission authorization.

Foundayo is a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist that does not require administration under specific food or water restrictions.

Reuters reported that the product generated approximately $98 million in second-quarter 2026 sales, compared with approximately $484.5 million for Novo Nordisk's oral Wegovy during the same period. European Medicines Agency (EMA)

Why it matters strategically

The regulatory recommendation brings a second oral GLP-1 treatment closer to the European obesity market.

However, European Commission authorization and commercial access are separate milestones.

Even after authorization, actual uptake depends on national reimbursement decisions, pricing, prescribing restrictions, and healthcare-system budgets.

The administration advantage may improve patient convenience, but convenience alone does not establish superior clinical or economic value.
